Scholarships Awarded to Four Waukee CSD Seniors
Carol Dluhos and Edward Vavra have generously endowed Waukee Community School District with funds to provide four scholarships each year (in perpetuity) to our graduating students. Beginning in 2022, scholarship funds of $10,000, managed by the Community Foundation of Des Moines, will be split and awarded to graduating seniors from Waukee High School and Northwest High School.
Carol Dluhos grew up in Waukee, a descendant of the Shuler miners and a 1946 graduate of Waukee High School. Her husband, Edward Vavra, was born in Cedar Rapids and graduated from McKinley High School in 1947. He served in the Army and Air Force National Guard, graduated from Indiana University with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, and retired from Principal Financial Group in 1990.
The winners of the scholarships are as follows:
Davis Schmidt, Northwest High School
Kylie Meadows, Northwest High School
Alesandria Lo & Cooper Rogers, Waukee High School
Congratulations to these students, and best of luck in future endeavors!
